DREAMING OF OWNING YOUR OWN PHOTOGRAPHY📷❤️STUDIO
Hey there, fellow photographers! I'm Beth Alexander, based in Ontario, Canada, and I've been running my pet photography business from a converted cargo trailer since 2019.
Back in 2015, I started out photographing pets outdoors, but dealing with the unpredictable weather was tough. I considered renting or buying a dedicated space for my business, but the costs were prohibitive, and finding the right location was a challenge.
That's when I had a lightbulb moment – why not go mobile? And let me tell you, it's been a game-changer! Operating from a mobile studio has brought flexibility and convenience to my business like never before.
Because I struggled to find information on this subject when I started my own build, I decided to create an Information Package to assist anyone else considering this route.
WHAT TYPE OF PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO IS RIGHT FOR YOU
Renting/Buying a property (mall/plaza/storefront)
Inside your home or on your property
Shared Space (hotel/community center/ commercial board rooms/art centers)
Mobile (Van/Delivery Trucks/Cargo trailer/RV)
Why I Went Mobile
Low Overhead Costs and Competitive Advantage:
By opting for a mobile studio over a traditional brick-and-mortar space, I've been able to maintain low overhead costs while still reaching a wider client base.
This choice gives my photography business a unique edge over competitors, attracting clients who appreciate the convenience and flexibility of a mobile service.
Environmental Impact:
Operating a mobile studio contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions compared to a fixed location.
The custom studio housed within a cargo trailer minimizes the local carbon footprint by requiring less heating and cooling, promoting eco-friendly practices.
Convenience and Versatility:
The capability to host special events or mini sessions inside the cargo trailer simplifies the process for both myself and collaborating businesses.
This convenience serves as a persuasive selling point for potential collaborations, enhancing business opportunities and expanding clientele.
Health and Safety:
Maintaining health and safety standards is essential for business owners, especially in light of factors like Covid-19.
The small, controlled space of the mobile studio makes it easy to uphold workplace safety measures and cleanliness, with minimal external interference or unexpected visitors.
Client and Pet Comfort:
The mobile studio offers convenience for clients and their pets, particularly those with anxiety about travelling or mobility issues.
By bringing the studio directly to their doorstep, I ensure a stress-free experience for both clients and their furry companions.
Considerations Before Going Mobile
Vehicle's Towing Capacity: Determine the towing capacity of your current/prospective vehicle or assess the load-bearing capabilities of your chosen van or RV.
Safe Storage: Parking Space - Identify a suitable location for your mobile studio when not in use.
Insurance Coverage: Consult Insurance Provider - Discuss additional coverage options for your mobile studio and its contents.
Financial Consideration: Initial Startup Cost: Are you willing to invest approximately $24,000.00+ for a cargo trailer or van conversion, or potentially more for an RV setup? Consider the initial investment required for equipment, vehicle modifications, and other associated costs.
